Only the round blank daisies stare Unwinking at the sun, While one by one the poppies bloom And wither one by one. Listless the laburnum droops Now spring is growing old, And faded blossoms damascene The burning grass with gold. And summer is but sorrow In a million winter hearts — Vanity of vanities, And glory that departs. Undated, 1944 |
