Good
ruler of this ancient Hall, good Master, May 1960 keep you from disaster! Supposing those repairs, so long neglected, Cost twenty thousand more than you expected? Suppose your Fellows had the almighty cheek To vote for ladies dining twice a week? Supposing Congregation should invent An Honour School of Business Management? Suppose those fearful monsters of the City Known as the General Purposes Committee Should send their bulldozers, some dreaded dawn, Across the Quad and through the Fellows' lawn, Their only answer to your piteous cry — "This is the new relief road for the High!"? Good Master raise your glass and have good cheer — God save both you and Oxford this New Year! Oxford Times, 8 January 1960 |
